Lately, reality TV has become a guilty pleasure of mine, so on Sunday night me and my sister gathered in the living room to see a couple of our favorite shows. We had just finish watching the Real Housewives of Atlanta and a new reality show was coming on called “To Rome With Love.” I never really paid the show any attention but my sister wanted to look at it, so I tuned in with her. As I’m watching the show, I noticed a familiar face among some of the women who was looking for love. This particular celebrity had an amazing cooking show on the Food Network channel with her husband. I know that she had not too long ago, gotten a divorce from him but in this episode she shared her truth with the world. She revealed that she never wanted to do the cooking show. She said it was her husband’s dream but she agreed to do the show to support him. She also said that she was very unhappy for a long time because she wanted to live a normal life. For years she put on a façade pretending to have everything under control when it was quite the opposite. I am always reminded that things are not what they appear to be, I commended her for being so brave and transparent with her struggles. We often look at people’s life and everything seems to be so perfect. But we can never imagine the hell these people go through on a daily basis. We look at rich people who seem to have all the money in the world but that doesn’t stop the problems from showing up. The beautiful power couple who we say is hashtag “goals” but do we really aspire to have that same kind of relationship as them? There is so much we don’t know and yet we go out of our way to mimic false behavior. I myself have been guilty of this for a long time because the devil will make it seem as though these people are having the time of their lives and you are somehow missing out. If we traded lives with some of these of people we would literally beg for our old lives back. At this moment in your life, you are right where God wants you to be. Don’t question it or doubt the direction your life is going because God makes no mistakes. I would have never known that she was going through so much because she appeared to be so happy. Make sure that the reality you are looking for is within your own life instead of someone else’s.
